ATV Ride to Bud Agta Viewing Deck: An Exciting Adventure at the Foot of the Chocolate Hills

Chocolate Hills is the top tourist destination on the Island of Bohol and one of the most visited destinations in the Central Visayas Region of the Philippines. Hence a Bohol experience would not be complete without visiting this group of extraordinary hills that made Bohol a popular tourist destination.

Ten years ago, We visited this wonderful province and its famous Chocolate Hills. The first time I saw this marvelous landscape promised myself to be back here some other time. So, after ten years, we are here again and this time, we tried a new and exciting way of enjoying the beautiful view.

First on our countryside tour itinerary is the Chocolate Hills in Carmen Bohol. We left the hotel in Panglao at precisely 8 AM and arrived in Carmen at around 10 AM. Few tourists were lining up to pay for the ATV rental. ATV rental is P 1,000, while the buggy car rental is P 2,000. We also pay an additional P 100 environmental fee for each person.

It was a thrilling ride adventure, and the view along the way was amazing. There were farmers and residents who waved to us as we passed through the pavement.

We stopped at the foot of the Chocolate hills, where we had our photos taken with a gorgeous couple of hills as our backdrop. Here, we had the best view of the Chocolate Hills up close, me again in awe. Savoring the beauty of this natural wonder was awesome.

Bud Agta Viewing Deck

Bud Agta is the newest viewing point of the world-famous Chocolate Hills in Barangay Tambo-an, Carmen Bohol. This place is now getting attention in social media due to its unobstructed, scenic view of the cone-shaped hills. This place is eco-friendly as the steps are built entirely from bamboo.

We were a bit exhausted after we finished the 158 steps, so we rested on the bamboo bench while gazing at the panoramic view of the Chocolate Hills. The air was breezy, cold, and refreshing.

At the viewing deck, you will have a scenic view of the Chocolate Hills, a rice field, and trees, and it was a beauty to behold. A verdant-colored hills during the wet season, but these small mountains will turn brown during the dry season.

There is a platform where we had our photos with the Chocolate Hills and lovely cottony clouds as our background. Our tour guide, Peter, is very knowledgeable about operating our cellphone and action camera. He captures excellent images and videos like a professional photographer. He also is very funny yet friendly in giving posing ideas.

Overall we had a memorable Chocolate Hills adventure, although during our ATV and Buggy car ride. We got dirty on the rough terrain as we passed the rocky and muddy road paths and got exhausted going to the view deck, but the view was all worth it.

Things to bring for your ATV ride Chocolate Hills adventure:

  • Cash – Credit cards and other forms of payment are not accepted.
  • Extra clothes – Getting dirty during ATV driving cannot be avoided; you better bring extra clothes if needed.
  • Cameras – The views and surroundings are photo-worthy.
  • Bottled water – Going up to the deck can be exhausting. Bring bottled water to keep you hydrated.
  • Handkerchief/face towel/wipes/tissue paper – get your wipes handy as you will get mud splash during your ATV driving.
