A trip to Taiwan is not complete without visiting this well known and most prominent historical landmark in Taipei, Taiwan located at the end of the Liberty Square (original name) In Zhongshan South Rd, Zhongsheng District, Taipei, Taiwan.
THE NATIONAL CHIANG KAI SHEK is a national monument and tourist attraction built in memory of Generalissimo Chang Kai-shek, former president of the Republic of China (ROC). It was opened to the public in 1980 as part of the national park.
The octagon shaped building rises 76 meter stand is covered with blue tiles and red accents, resembling the flag of Taiwan. The 2 sets of 89 steps represents the Chiang’s age of death. The main hall housed a large bronze statue of Chiang protected by military personnel which change every hour.
The ceiling has the symbol of koumintang, a party emblem of the ROC. The blue sky with a white sun with twelve rays symbolizes the spirit of progress.
Going upstairs is exhausting, but seeing the view above is all worthwhile.
We watched the changing of guards at 4PM. It was very crowded during that time.
Changing of guards lasted for about 10 to 15 minutes including announcements made by the official in Chinese, Japanese, English, Spanish and Filipino language.

If you plan to visit Taiwan in the near future, you should include Chian Kai-shek in your itinerary if you like to know more about their history and culture.
